Heritage Protection in Victoria: the role of State and local government

Heritage Victoria has published a new brochure providing an overview of the roles of State and local government in heritage protection. This helpful guide has been prepared in light of recent debates about the protection of local heritage places, reported extensively in the media, and provides clarity about the roles and responsibilities of councils and state government in protecting heritage. This includes the process for Councils requesting interim heritage protection, and issuing demolition permits under the Building Act 1993.
