Protecting Rivers of the Barwon (Barre Warre Yulluk)

In October The Barwon River Ministerial Advisory Committee (Barwon MAC) launched their discussion paper, which has been prepared to promote community discussion about issues and opportunities to improve the oversight and management of the Barwon River. The Barwon MAC has been established as part of a community led approach to protecting the rivers of the Barwon for generations to come. This includes the Moorabool, Yarrowee and Leigh rivers and their tributaries.

The Victorian Government will welcome the Barwon MAC’s recommendations by the end of this year, which will shape the development of a Rivers of the Barwon Action Plan in 2020. Recommendations may include changes to land use planning controls, responsibilities for land and water management, and better ways to involve and work with Traditional Owners and the community.

The National Trust will be preparing a submission to ensure that the Action Plan sufficiently protects the significant cultural values of the Barwon River.

Submissions close 3 November 2019. For more info or to have your say here.
